Use the Battery Code Decoder to read the imported open-source battery database. The preview visual helps separate the current family or form factor from the decoded summary, confidence note, segment breakdown, reference rows, and alias policy.

Alias policy

PolicyMeaning
Canonical keyThe imported primary code is the lookup source of truth.
Unique aliases143 aliases auto-match to their canonical record.
Ambiguous aliases15 aliases are rejected as ambiguous rather than guessed.
Partial inputIncomplete markings stay unresolved until the visible code is complete enough to identify the record.

How the output is written

Output fieldMeaning
Preview visualA schematic battery visual built from the decoded family, size, and voltage cues.
Decoded summaryPlain-language readout of the canonical battery record.
ConfidenceWhether the match came from a primary code or an accepted unique alias.
Segment breakdownSeparate rows for the family, group, chemistry, size, voltage, and any preserved note fields.
Reference rowsSource notes, aliases, and limits behind the decoded fields.

How to enter a battery code

  1. Enter the complete visible code exactly as printed, including letters, numbers, spaces, and any hyphenated suffixes.
  2. Read the preview visual and decoded summary first so you can see which family or size pattern was recognized.
  3. Inspect the segment breakdown to separate chemistry, shape, size, and alias clues.
  4. Use the reference rows and source notes before making a replacement or purchase decision.

What the decoder does not decide

  • Capacity, discharge curve, rechargeability, or chemistry performance.
  • Device compatibility beyond the visible designation.
  • Safety approval, shelf life, or runtime.
  • Whether a similar-looking code belongs to the same manufacturer series.

Sources and limits

Limits: This page covers only the imported battery database and its exact alias rules. It does not replace the original product label, manufacturer data sheet, or any battery safety requirement.

Open-source battery database from centricle/batteries (https://github.com/centricle/batteries); License MIT; Open-source consumer battery specification database covering 52 battery types across 5 groups.; verified 2026-08-30.

  • This page is a production database view, not a universal battery parser.
  • Only unique aliases auto-match. Ambiguous aliases stay visible as notes so the decoder can refuse a guess.
  • Battery chemistry, shape, and size remain separate clues. The decoder does not collapse them into runtime, discharge, or capacity claims.
  • Cross-reference and manufacturer labels can change the final meaning. Verify the original product label and data sheet before acting.
  • Do not treat the decoded output as a safety, installation, procurement, or compliance decision.

Decode logic

  • Identify the visible battery family or form factor first, then keep the chemistry family and size code separate from runtime or capacity claims.
  • Read the supported code exactly as printed, including the round-cell, button-cell, cylindrical, or rectangular pattern that belongs to the imported battery database.
  • Treat the decoded summary as a designation reading aid, not as a full battery specification or discharge model.
  • Verify the manufacturer datasheet and product label before using the result as a replacement or procurement decision.

FAQs

Does a battery code tell me the capacity?

No. The code may identify the family, chemistry, or size, but capacity and runtime still come from the datasheet and manufacturer label. CR (lithium) and LR (alkaline) cells of one size are not automatically interchangeable; check the device manual.

Can similar battery codes be interchangeable?

Not always. Similar-looking codes can share a size family while differing in chemistry, terminal shape, or device compatibility. Verify the exact product line.

What should I do when the code is ambiguous?

Keep the code as a candidate, compare the package and product label, and check the manufacturer datasheet before choosing a replacement.
