Cable labels in the imported cable database use both metric area notation and American Wire Gauge notation. The safe reading step is to preserve the unit exactly as printed and let the matched entry explain its own size segment. Use the Cable Marking Decoder for a complete supported marking.
Metric area entries
| Input | Visible area | Current result wording |
|---|---|---|
| H07RN-F 3G2.5 | 2.5 mm2 | 2.5 mm2 each for the three-conductor entry. |
| H05VV-F 3G1.5 | 1.5 mm2 | 3G1.5 in the matched PVC flexible cord entry. |
| H07V-U 1X2.5 | 2.5 mm2 | Single 2.5 mm2 conductor. |
| H07V-K 1X4 | 4 mm2 | Single 4 mm2 conductor. |
| NYY-J 5X10 | 10 mm2 | Five cores, 10 mm2 each. |
AWG entries
| Input | Visible gauge | Current result wording |
|---|---|---|
| NM-B 12/2 | 12 AWG | 12 AWG, two insulated conductors, with the grounding conductor described as commonly implied in the product marking. |
| THHN 12 AWG | 12 AWG | 12 AWG conductor size. |
| SOOW 3C 12 AWG | 12 AWG | Three conductors, 12 AWG. |
| UF-B 14/2 | 14 AWG | 14 AWG, two insulated conductors, with the current note about the grounding conductor. |
| SJOOW 4C 16 AWG | 16 AWG | Four conductors, 16 AWG. |
Keep the unit attached to the value
2.5 mm2, 4 mm2, 12 AWG, 14 AWG, and 16 AWG are not interchangeable labels. This guide does not provide a conversion table, and the current decoder does not convert one notation into the other. Preserve the original unit when recording or comparing a marking.
Size is not ampacity
The current warnings are explicit: a conductor area or gauge shown in a marking does not determine ampacity by itself. Treat size as one visible field in a matched reference entry and verify the complete product documentation for any real-world decision.
Source and limits
Imported regional power-cord rows from MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs, harmonized cable marking guides, UL wire and cable marking guidance, and manufacturer cable data sheets; verified 2026-08-30.
- This page is a production database view built from imported rows plus exact cable-marking lookup examples.
- A conductor area or gauge shown in a marking does not determine ampacity by itself.
- Manufacturer-specific suffixes and local code requirements can change the final meaning. Verify the complete product label and data sheet before acting.
- Do not treat this decoder or guide as a safety, installation, procurement, customs, or legal compliance decision.
